The Information Industries Bureau within the Queensland Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry works closely with the Queensland game development industry and the Australian Games Developers’ Association to deliver on the Government’s $800,000 Interactive Games Industry Package. Over the past two years the Queensland Government has actively facilitated the development of a strong and vibrant environment in which the local electronic games industry is flourishing.
Major initiatives have included:
- Assistance to Queensland game development firms to participate at the International Game Developers’ Conferences and E3 expos in the United States each year since 2003
- Assistance to support the attendance of a representative from the Queensland game development industry at the Tokyo Game Show 2005
The huge success of the booming Queensland game development industry has seen the number of Queenslanders employed directly in the development of electronic games rise to over 600 people, an increase of some 60%.
As a result of Government support the Queensland industry now represents over 40 percent of the industry nationally.
