There's more to games than developing for a particular platform. Advanced games development demands many skills. Games designers need artistic skills as well as strong fundamentals in design and usability – and the ability to work with programmers. Games engine development is one of the hardest areas of software engineering. You need not only top coding skills, but skills in mathematical modelling, physics and the ability to solve really hard programming problems.

The University of Queensland School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering offers you several paths to the games industry. For a very strong base in software engineering, our highly-regarded Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering has electives to cover the games engine side. Our Bachelor of Multimedia Design has a strong grounding in design principles as well as technology, so you can fit your artistic talent to the creativity needed for games design. Our Bachelor of Information Technology allows you flexibility to go both ways. If you are a hot coder, you can add the basic science needed to model the real world in a games engine. If you like programming but have more of an artistic bent, you can mix in some of our multimedia courses.

The University of Queensland has been rated by the prestigious Times Higher Education Supplement as one of the top 50 universities in the world. With our links with top international universities like MIT, we ensure that you have a world-class education, and can stand out above the crowd.
